Around 1 and a half hours north of Perth, is the small town of Guilderton which is part of the Shire of Gin Gin. This town is home to Moore river, where sweeping white sandy beaches give way to tranquil estuary habitats.

Located at the peak of a hill with sand and limestone loam, the site takes full advantage of its natural surroundings. With views towards the ocean (west), coastline (north) and bush (south), our proposal aimed to frame these moments as opposed to expose everything at once. The orientation and locating of the house on the site therefore is tucked towards the back south corner, giving priority to a North garden space. Each window and glass door considered to control views, prevailing winds, light, and privacy.

Architecturally, it was important for us to understand a roof system and materials that provided ample shade and wind protection in what can be such harsh conditions. Combining our understanding of this we designed rammed earth walls with natural treated timbers and metals.
